Open-ZB: an open source toolset for IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee
The IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee protocols (available at
http://standards.ieee.org and
http://www.zigbee.org) are potentially appealing for supporting large-scale Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) applications. Energy-efficiency, timeliness and scalability are some features that leverage the use of this protocol stack for WSN applications.
The open-ZB web site makes available open source implementations of the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee protocols, providing the following toolset:
- a protocol stack developed in nesC, under the TinyOS operating system for the MICAz mote (CrossBow)
- a simulation model built using OPNET
We have been using this toolset for research purposes, namely to assess the current functionalities defined in the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee standards as well as new add-ons to these protocols. We expect that it can be useful for you too. Open-ZB is available for everybody and collaborative effort is welcome. Feel free to download and use the toolset, participate in the Forum and let us know about your work!
